CATFISHING AND STALKING ON THE SOCIAL MEDIA compiled by Chukwubike OC


Catfishing is a deceptive activity where a person creates a sockpuppet presence or fake identity on a social networking service, usually targeting a specific victim for abuse or fraud. The practice may be used for financial gain, to compromise a victim in some way, or simply as forms of trolling or wish fulfillment. Catfishing media has been produced, often featuring victims who wish to identify their catfisher.

It can further be described  as, the process of luring someone into a relationship by means of a fictional online persona.


                                STALKING

Stalking can be defined as the willful and repeated following, watching or harassing of another person. Unlike other crimes, which usually involve one act, stalking is a series of actions that occur over a period of time

The crime of stalking can be simply described as the unwanted pursuit of another person. Examples of this type of behavior includes following a person, appearing at a person's home or place of business, making harassing phone calls, leaving written messages or objects, or vandalizing a person's property


STALKING ON SOCIAL MEDIA 

Cyberstalking is the use of the Internet or other electronic means to stalk or harass an individual, group, or organization. ... A stalker may be an online stranger or a person whom the target knows. They may be anonymous and solicit involvement of other people online who do not even know the target.
